Texas Mutual Insurance Company, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance, is accepting applications through September 29 from Texas nonprofits for our grant cycle focused on fortifying the workforce. These grants support our goal of strengthening the Texas economy, which is one of four commitments outlined in our new corporate citizenship strategy. As the market leader in Texas, we believe our strong position gives us the force to do good-for our employees, policyholders, partners and communities across the state.

Our workforce development and safety training grants are the second of two Request for Proposal (RFP) initiatives this year investing in nonprofit organizations for their efforts to support working families and fortify businesses. In this grant cycle, we’re seeking to invest in organizations and initiatives focused on the following:

  • Training the current and future skilled workforce in safe work practices, especially in industries or occupations at higher risk for workplace accidents
  • Creating strong pathways for in-demand middle-skill jobs
  • Upskilling and reskilling adult learners using earn-and-learn initiatives

Applicant requirements

To be eligible for grant funding, organizations are required to be based in Texas, must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization, and must be able to demonstrate they are actively delivering technical assistance and services to Texas communities. Grant amounts will vary by market and organization size. Applicants are recommended to request funding between $25,000 and $100,000, unless otherwise advised.

How to apply

Our workforce development and safety training grants align with our mission to build a stronger, safer Texas and we look forward to supporting organizations that share in this mission. Organizations interested in applying can find more information and access the online application portal on Texas Mutual's community funding page. Applications are due by Friday, September 29 at 11:59 p.m. CDT.

Texas Mutual’s review committee will evaluate applications during the month of October and will make final award decisions by the week of October 30.

Community funding impact

This grant cycle is the second of two RFP initiatives we’re conducting this year, totaling $8 million in grant funding. The first cycle ended in May and we awarded $4.1 million to 62 organizations focused on health and wellness, expanding access to child care and providing wraparound support for clients. Since 2016, we’ve contributed $60 million to organizations strengthening the state of Texas. Our grant programs allow us to further our reach across the state by partnering with organizations that are doing meaningful work in the community.
