Due to a comprehensive revision of the HWOL Index and HWOL Data Series, there will be changes in the volume as a result of this revision. The majority of the volume change was caused by the removal of the bulk of the anonymous ads. Please note that the HWOL Data Series has been revised back to January 2015.

Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
There were about 84,000 Available Job Postings during the May 2021 monthly reporting period, an increase of 4,500 postings compared to the previous month. There were 33,700 New (first-time) Job Postings, an increase of 4,300 postings compared to April 2021. New (first-time) Job Postings in May 2021 now represents 40 percent of all Available Job Postings, showing that employers are increasing their share of new positions.
28 percent or 23,300 of the Available Job Postings during the May 2021 reporting period fell under both the Computer and Mathematical Occupations and Management Occupations. The number of Computer and Mathematical postings started to increase in February 2021, after a gradual decline in August 2020, and now has surpassed the levels found before and at the start of the pandemic in 2020.
There are slightly over 3,000 Available Job Postings that specifically offer "work from home" opportunities. A majority of these postings are tech-related, followed by sales and management occupations. Compared to May 2020, there were only about 1,400 "work from home" opportunities, showing that employers are now more open to remote work.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 4.5% or 57,400 unemployed in April 2021. The number of Available Job Postings in May 2021 is about 26,600 more than the number of unemployed for April 2021 in the Austin MSA.
The top 5 New (first-time) Job Postings in May 2021 were for Software Developers-Applications, Sales Representatives-Wholesale and Manufacturing, Managers-All Others, Registered Nurses, and Retail Salespersons.
More jobs ahead. In May 2021, the Austin metro region saw another 3 more Californian companies make new relocation announcements. A total of 1,240 jobs were announced through new relocation or expansion plans in the Austin MSA for May 2021. 240 Tech (Santa Ana, CA), Crystal Dynamics (Redwood City, CA), and Resonant (Santa Barbara, CA) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating 55 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 1,185 new jobs, includes AlertMedia, AnthemIQ, Bartlett Cocke, Energy Exploration Technologies, Ethos Technologies, Exaco, Firefly Aerospace, Hearth, Hypori, Infinitum Electric, Mythi, Rev and Wheel.
