At the Regional Mobility Summit held on April 12th, we delved into a range of topics concerning planes, automobiles, interstates, and more. Our annual event brought together housing and transportation experts, public officials, and city planners to envision the future of mobility in the Austin region.

Discover how we champion practical transportation projects and policies that cater to our booming population, ease traffic congestion, and enrich our living standards.




Shortly after, Tamara Atkinson from Workforce Solutions joined Mayor Watson, and they discussed important topics surrounding the intersection of workforce and transportation needs for the Austin Region.



Breakout Sessions


  • I-35 Capital Express Central

    Tucker Ferguson, District Engineer for the AustinDistrict of the Texas Department of Transportation, provided some importantupdates in his presentation of the highly anticipated I-35 Capital Expresswayproject. This project is the largest reconstruction of I-35 in over 50 years,adding one to two lanes from SH 45 North to SH 45 Southeast. The Austin Chamberand Opportunity Austin have been working in coordination with TxDOT and theCity of Austin and other stakeholders to make this transformational project areality.

  • Project Connect

    These two breakout sessions discussed the plans for Project Connect and the light-rail. The first session was a discussion featuring Lindsay Wood and Peter Mullan from Austin Transit Partnership, Sharmila Mukherjee from CapMetro, and moderator Annick Beaudet from the Capital Delivery Department at the City of Austin. They discussed the different options Austin Transit Partnership has for Project Connect and what those would look like.

    The second session was an additional discussion on how ATP is preparing the community to construct and deliver Project Connect. This panel featured Greg Canally, Casey Burack, and Manan Garg from Austin Transit Partnership, as well as moderator Tamara Atkinson from Workforce Solutions Capital Area. This included a breakdown of the utilities, workforce, community support, and partnerships that will need to be put in place in order to achieve this massive project.

  • Regional Growth

    This panel featured County Commissioners Cynthia Long (Williamson County), Clara Beckett (Bastrop County), Ed Theriot (Caldwell County), and moderator Will Conley. These experts from the surrounding Austin counties gave us their insight and updates on the growth we are experiencing in our region, as well as their respective counties.

  • Airport Expansion

    Somer Shindler, Chief Development Officer with theAustin-Bergstrom International Airport, and Jennifer Williams, ProjectManagement Supervisor, also with the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport,gave us an overview of the rapid growth of our city’s airport and their futureexpansion plans of the airport. These plans will help the airport adapt andmeet the growing air transportation needs of our city. They highlighted some ofthe projects that are already underway that will help add capacity to our airport.Then they highlighted what the future of the airport will look like a decade ormore down the line.
