Austin Chamber's Opportunity Austin welcomes realtor.com® expansion

Expansion of website’s Opcity technology platform unit estimated to create 200 jobs

Posted on 08/28/2019

Opportunity Austin, the Greater Austin Chamber's five-county prosperity initiative, today announced realtor.com®'s plans to expand into a second office in Austin, creating approximately 200 jobs across both Austin locations.

"Realtor.com®’s decision to open an additional office in Austin reaffirms the confidence local job creators have in attracting quality talent," said Austin Chamber Senior Vice President, Economic Development, Charisse Bodisch. "The 200 new jobs are welcome news and will offer more opportunities for individuals to provide for their families, pay their bills, and contribute to community prosperity."

The new office is part of an expansion that began in October 2018, when Move, Inc. – the company that operates realtor.com® – acquired Austin-based Opcity. Founded in 2015, Opcity’s fast-growing technology platform uses data science and machine learning to connect home buyers and sellers with a real estate professional that meets their specific needs. The realtor.com®-Opcity merger serves as the foundation for building a highly personalized, guided experience that helps consumers navigate the complexities of buying and selling a home.

Opcity was recognized as a Best Place to Work by the Austin Business Journal in 2019 and by both Inc. Magazine and the Austin American-Statesman in 2018.

“We’re excited to welcome new talent to the realtor.com® team as we expand our footprint in Austin,” said Opcity CEO and Founder Ben Rubenstein. “Our new office will help us take advantage of everything this great city has to offer – tech, talent and terrific downtown location – as we continue to grow as a leading innovator in the real estate industry.”

Approximately 650 consumer experience, sales, marketing, finance and accounting employees work at the company’s current 6800 Burleson Road location. The new site, located at 901 E. Sixth St., will house nearly 200 product, engineering, data science and analytics employees.

The second Austin office will occupy approximately 29,000 square feet within a 129,444-square-foot building currently under construction. Completion is expected in late September.

The company’s new space offers natural light and the ability to tailor the layout to Opcity’s specific needs. The architectural firm Perkins + Will is designing it to mirror other realtor.com® locations. The design will incorporate home-inspired furniture and decor to reinforce realtor.com®'s mission of making buying and selling homes easier and more rewarding. To inspire employees to do their best work, the office will be equipped with a fully stocked kitchenette, meeting and huddle rooms, secure bike racks, a dog park, showers, and more.
