"Look Good, Feel Good" Mental Health Education Symposium
Join us at the Austin Central Library on Sunday, Oct 13, 2024, for a day filled with valuable insights and strong messages of self-love and acceptance at the Look Good, Feel Good Mental Health Education Symposium!
This event will include a comprehensive and interactive learning experience for participants consisting of a combination of moderator-led panel discussions, keynote speeches, artistic expression performance art, and art therapy group activities promoting positive self-image, inner confidence, and self-actualization within wellness. It will serve as an educational forum featuring a diverse group of mental health professionals, individuals suffering from mental disorders, as well as their loved ones, discussing various facets of mental health and sharing their perspectives.
Keynote speakers Larry Wallace, Sr., Founder of Black Men's Health Clinic, and Dr. Calvin Kelly, Chief Clinical Officer of Harvest Trauma Recovery Center will headline the symposium. Panelists from various organizations, including WithinHer, Out Wellness, Integral Care, Jayme Shiarla Coaching, and Curtesia Plunkett, PhD, will share their expertise. Discussion topics will cover areas such as Beauty & Personal Appearance, Weight & Body Image, Marriage, Divorce & Relationship Issues, Disenfranchisement of Men's Mental Health, LGBTQIA Challenges, and Sickness & Death Trauma.
This symposium will also be a sanctuary of self-love and artistic expression. Poets, seasoned and emerging, will lay bare their souls through spoken word, unraveling personal narratives of struggle and triumph. Their vulnerability will resonate deeply, fostering connection and understanding among those who have felt unseen. Singers will uplift spirits with anthems of resilience, their soulful melodies reminding listeners of their inherent worth. Musicians will craft sonic tapestries that evoke a spectrum of emotions, each note a step towards healing. Dancers will embody liberation through movement, translating complex emotions into graceful choreography, inspiring others to embrace their own unique rhythms.
But the magic doesn't stop at observation. Attendees will become artists themselves, stepping into their creative power within dynamic workshops that bridge artistic expression and emotional well-being. Guided by mental health professionals, they will unleash their inner artists and tap into the cathartic potential of creativity. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in expressive art and vocal therapy art group activities, where they can:
• Channel raw emotions into vibrant art by hurling paint-soaked tennis balls at canvases to create unique visual art. This physical form of art therapy can provide a cathartic release for emotions and promote self-expression.
• Find their voices through vocal expression, capturing raw emotions as personalized audio art. This form of therapy can provide a creative outlet for individuals to experience the power of artistic expression and promote healing.
By weaving together diverse artistic talents and transformative therapies, our program creates a holistic experience that nourishes mind, body, and spirit. It's an invitation to embrace vulnerability, celebrate individuality, and discover the power of self-love through artistic expression. It will not only raise awareness but also provide resources for those who may be struggling to maintain and improve their own mental well-being.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to invest in yourself and discover new ways to look good and feel good from the inside out! For more information or to register, visit www.lgfginitiative.com.
