How well is the City of Austin progressing on business permitting?

Posted on 08/04/2017 by Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce

The City of Austin has asked the Chamber and business organizations to provide feedback from a company perspective on their permitting improvements. We encourage you to share your feedback, opinions, or concerns regarding the survey results here. We will provide your comments to the Mayor and city staff.

The City of Austin conducted a 2016 development services poll amongst business users. Most respondents were dissatisfied with the completion time of the review process and the frequent delays that occur due to minor issues. The process for site plans, subdivisions, commercial plans, and residential plan reviews were the lowest rated satisfaction topics in the survey.

The Austin Chamber believes that smart local government policies, including those on permitting, are conducive to a strong regional business climate that supports community growth and ensures the Central Texas region is workable for all residents.

The complete 2016 poll results are available here. The survey, conducted via email from October 25 to November 4, 2016, consisted of a series of emails to customers who used DSD services within the past two years. More than 1,133 surveys were completed through the effort. Most respondents—including contractors, builders, citizens, developers, owners, design professionals, realtors, and agents—are satisfied with how they are treated by DSD staff and their technical competence regarding issues.
