A message from the chair

Posted on 03/17/2020 by Board Chair Craig Enoch

This is a difficult time for all of us. As we learn more about COVID-19, I know businesses and the individuals they employ may be overwhelmed by feelings of uncertainty and fear. But we should be confident that our community will come together and recover from this unprecedented time.

While the economy will certainly feel the effects of this crisis, it is too soon to know exactly how severe that impact will be. Right now, we must focus on the public health aspect of this crisis. It will take each one of us to stop the spread of this virus by taking precautions, such as social distancing. And I urge Austinites and Austin workplaces to follow guidelines set forth by the CDC.

Yet, we should remember, Texas has the top economy in the country, and Austin has been named one of the most recession-proof cities in America. When the world moves past this crisis, we will bounce back.

Until then, the Chamber is prepared and dedicated to providing resources for businesses. And as you think of other support services we may provide, we welcome your feedback on what we can further do.
