The Central Texas region’s population continues to grow, and so do the region’s healthcare needs. With the increase in population and healthcare needs, the need for blood and platelet donations also continues to rise.

We Are Blood is the exclusive provider of our community’s blood supply. They are responsible for meeting the needs of the 40 hospitals and medical facilities in the 10-county area. Blood and platelet donations help with life-saving medical treatments every single day. We Are Blood needs approximately 200 donors daily to meet the community's current needs.

The most critical need right now is platelet donations. While red blood cells can be stored and used for up to 42 days, platelets only have a shelf life of seven days. This makes managing the platelet supply for Central Texas a critical daily task.

Both blood and platelets help patients with traumatic injuries, Patients undergoing cancer treatment, Patients undergoing heart surgery or organ transplants, Patients with significant burns, and many others in our community who need lifesaving treatments.

How Can You Help?

First, you can donate. We Are Blood has four locations in the area with availability seven days a week to accommodate your schedule.

You, your company, or an organization you are a part of can host a blood drive. We Are Blood can help with the logistics for groups big and small. Even if you want to help but are short on space–they’ve got a plan. A blood donation bus is an excellent way for you to host a group blood drive in a self-contained environment. You schedule a day, they come to you, and the rest is taken care of. We bring everything we need to you, park outside, and all you need to do is supply the people.

The local blood supply is a shared community resource that bonds us all. By inspiring people to donate locally and take pride in this precious shared resource, we can ensure all Central Texans will continue to have access to life-saving blood when needed.
