AUSTIN, Texas—Business Facilities announced the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce as the recipient of its 2020 Deal of the Year Gold Award for its work on bringing Tesla's Giga Texas to the Austin region.

"The Chamber's Opportunity Austin team worked tirelessly with Tesla and our government and community partners to make this deal a reality," said Opportunity Austin Chair Gary Farmer. "Giga Texas is a true gamechanger for our region and is much deserving of this national attention."

When the deal was announced in 2020, Farmer shared that Giga Texas would provide opportunities for individuals to obtain new skills and develop career paths.

“Our community has the strong desire to ensure everyone in our region has opportunities to grow, opportunities to achieve success, and opportunities to provide a better future for their children," said Farmer. "Tesla’s decision to locate its newest Gigafactory in Austin will expand and enhance our innovative culture while also providing new and exciting career opportunities for all segments of our Central Texas workforce. The company’s pioneering spirit and advanced manufacturing technologies will be instrumental in our region’s economic recovery and our sustainable growth for the longer term.”

Business Facilities is a national publication that has been the leading location source for corporate site selectors and economic development professionals for more than 50 years.

”The plant that will build Tesla’s first entry into the truck market was one of the most coveted projects of the year,” said Business Facilities Editor in Chief Jack Rogers. “The Cybertruck assembly plant vaults Austin into the top tier of automotive manufacturing hubs.”
