TxDOT Be Safe. Drive Smart. Campaign

Pedestrian Safety Campaign

With the end of daylight-saving time, heightened awareness of pedestrian safety is critical. Because when it’s dark, walkers face increased risk. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is reaching out to businesses in communities most affected by pedestrian-vehicle crashes for help sharing safety tips for drivers and pedestrians.

According to TxDOT’s 2024 data, the city of Austin had the fourth most pedestrian crashes in the state, with 323 traffic crashes involving pedestrians, resulting in 41 pedestrian fatalities and 61 pedestrian serious injuries last year. The majority of pedestrian crashes happen at night.

As part of TxDOT’s Be Safe. Drive Smart. campaign, we’re asking for your support in helping to prevent these tragedies this season.
