On February 27, 2023, Ms. Daniela Schmitt, the State Minister for Economic Affairs, Transportation, Agriculture and Viniculture of Rhineland-Palatinate, officially announced the opening of Rhineland-Palatinate’s foreign trade mission in Austin, TX. Mr. Sean Herrity, the US Business Representative for Rhineland-Palatinate, met with Minister Schmitt in Mainz, Germany to solidify this commitment to US trade and economic development and a local presence in Austin.

The purpose of the US trade office is to promote economic activity and bilateral trade between Rhineland-Palatinate and the US, advise Rhineland-Palatinate businesses on US market entry as well as market Rhineland-Palatinate as an attractive business location to US companies and investors.

Austin, TX was chosen as a location of preference due to the economic growth over the last decade driven by tech, startup and investor communities. From a macro-perspective Texas attracts significant US domestic and international investment in advanced manufacturing, technology, transportation, agriculture, biotech, life sciences, energy and infrastructure projects. Texas also has a booming commercial wine industry. Hence, a perfect fit with the Ministry’s overall economic development focus.
