St. David’s Medical Center names new chief financial officer

AUSTIN, Texas—St. David’s Medical Center has named Laura Wiess as its new chief financial officer. Wiess assumed her new position on August 10.
Wiess, who has worked at St. David’s HealthCare for the past 25 years, most recently served as the chief financial officer at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center since 2017. During that time, she was instrumental in completing several major capital projects, including the opening of the freestanding emergency department in Leander; increasing stroke support, electrophysiology and cardiovascular services; and expansions of the medical-surgical, telemetry, intermediate care and operating room areas.
“For more than two decades, Laura’s financial stewardship and strategic planning have ensured hospitals throughout St. David’s HealthCare have provided high-quality care, while investing back into the Central Texas community,” Todd Steward, chief executive officer at St. David’s Medical Center, said. “Laura’s commitment to fiscal integrity and deep familiarity with St. David’s Medical Center will strengthen our leadership team which, ultimately, benefits the patients we serve.”
Prior to her role at St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center, Wiess served as the chief financial officer for both Heart Hospital of Austin and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital, campuses of St. David’s Medical Center. Wiess also served as the assistant chief financial officer for St. David’s North Austin Medical Center and St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center. She returns to St. David’s Medical Center where she previously served as a controller for eight years.
Wiess earned a master’s degree in professional accounting and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from The University of Texas at Austin.
