Heart Hospital of Austin names new chief financial officer
AUSTIN, Texas—Heart Hospital of Austin has named Matthew Bursley as its new chief financial officer. He succeeds Amanda McCann, who recently transitioned to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center as chief financial officer. Bursley assumed his new position on October 6.
Bursley most recently served as assistant chief financial officer at St. David’s Medical Center and St. David’s Georgetown Hospital—a campus of St. David’s Medical Center—since 2024. He worked closely with executive and director teams at each hospital to develop and manage budgets, as well as oversee strategic planning and the tracking of outcomes for those strategies. He also partnered with physicians to build business cases for new equipment and supplies, while ensuring strong financial outcomes for the new resources.
“Matthew’s extensive financial experience, including his leadership and collaborative spirit, make him a tremendous asset to our team,” Brett Matens, chief executive officer of Heart Hospital of Austin, said. “His knowledge of the St. David’s HealthCare system has equipped him with the insight to implement efficient processes, drive strategic growth and ensure financial stability, allowing us to deliver high-quality cardiovascular care to our patients.”
Prior to his time with St. David’s HealthCare, Bursley—who has more than a decade of wide-ranging financial experience—was the market controller for HCA HealthCare’s North Carolina Division in Asheville. In that role, he oversaw financial operations across multiple facilities.
Bursley holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
