Fairfield University’s Simulation Center Earns SSH Accreditation
The simulation center at Fairfield University has been reaccredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) following a successful site visit at the Austin Campus. Accredited through December 2029, the Austin facility features a 21-bed clinical learning laboratory and eight simulation rooms, including a state-of-the-art operating room, for creating fully immersive learning scenarios for nursing students.
SSH Accreditation is the gold standard for simulation centers, demonstrating excellence in simulation-based education and training. The comprehensive review evaluated the University’s simulation program and its adherence to best practices and established criteria.
“The successful site visit at the Austin Campus highlights Fairfield’s investment in and commitment to simulation-based education,” said Megan Nava, MSN, RN, CMSRN, simulation educator and assistant director of the Accelerated Second Degree Nursing program at Fairfield. “Our program boasts qualified educators, the latest high-fidelity equipment, and innovative curricula that are tailored to the specific needs of our undergraduate and graduate nursing programs.”
Fairfield offers a 15-month second-degree BSN program at its Austin Campus, located at 7951 Shoal Creek Boulevard. The ASDNU program is intended for non-nursing baccalaureate degree holders who wish to earn a second degree in nursing.
The Austin Campus also offers a 36-month doctoral-level Nurse Anesthesia program, the first of its kind in Central Texas.
“Fairfield is really good at educating nurses, and our simulation program is an important element of that,” Nava said. “SSH Accreditation validates our commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based simulation experiences to students.”
Fairfield University’s undergraduate nursing program is ranked #74 nationally by U.S. News & World Report. Its Nurse Anesthesia program is ranked #60.
