Ali Khataw, inducted to the Cockrell School of Engineering Academy of Distinguished Alumni
Austin, Texas – (October 7, 2019) – The Cockrell School of Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin has inducted Mr. Ali Khataw to the Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Academy of Distinguished Alumni.
Every fall since 2003, the Cockrell School of Engineering recognizes the professional achievements and contributions of its prominent graduates. All active members of the Academy of Distinguished Alumni are outstanding individuals in their field, role models, and leaders of community affairs.
Bob Gilbert, Chair of the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, says, “We are very proud of our alumni. They have a rich history of positive contributions to society and a strong vision for the future or our profession.”
On Friday, September 27, 2019, Mr. Khataw joined a select group of less than 150 notable graduates as a member of the Academy of Distinguished Alumni. “My love for Austin is greater than the buildings and infrastructure I helped create. My service to my community brings me great joy and a sense that I can make Austin better every day. I’m a privileged man that I get to live a life that I had only dreamed about. I’m humbled to accept this award and excited to see what the next steps are, for the new generation of engineers,” said Mr. Khataw in his acceptance remarks.
Ali Khataw is the President and CEO of Encotech Engineering Consultants, Inc. Mr. Khataw earned his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984. In 1990, he founded Encotech with the dream of becoming a creative multi-disciplinary engineering firm. He is very active in the community, giving his time to more than a dozen non-profits and community organizations. As a testament to his experience and his community involvement, Mr. Khataw is the recipient of the 2016 Engineer of the Year Award presented by the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, Travis Chapter.
Mr. Khataw is also a passionate traveler and an accomplished photographer known for his inspiring images from around the world, and his photo philanthropy. He donates his photographs to auctions supporting local charities, or sold online at Ali Khataw's Photo Philanthropy, with all proceeds destined to organizations dedicated to making a difference in other people’s lives.
