About TIEC

The Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) is a nonprofit network of 42 Texas higher education institutions (HEIs) and close to 30 international affiliates dedicated to advancing global education and collaboration. Through innovative partnerships, consulting, training, and workforce development initiatives, TIEC positions Texas as a global education hub while providing member institutions with opportunities to expand their international reach.

Role Overview

TIEC is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented Director of Business Development &Innovation to lead revenue growth and strategic partnerships. This senior leadership position will be responsible for expanding and managing TIEC’s fee-for-service portfolio while also providing strategic input on the grant program side to ensure alignment between philanthropic/government funding and fee-for-service offerings.

As the senior leader responsible for driving revenue generation, the Director will be accountable for securing new funding and ensuring that business development directly contributes to TIEC’s financial sustainability and growth. The Director will shape the organization’s innovation agenda and work closely with the President & CEO to position TIEC as a national and international leader in higher education partnerships, workforce development, and global engagement.

Key Responsibilities

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT & PARTNERSHIPS

Drive revenue generation

Expand TIEC’s relationships with Texas and international HEIs, industry leaders, and government agencies

Represent TIEC at conferences, high-level meetings, and partner events

Support Texas institutions in identifying and pursuing collaborative international opportunities

FEE-FOR-SERVICE

Lead the design, pricing, and implementation of TIEC’s consulting, training, credentialing, and partnership services

Establish profitability targets and business models that ensure sustainable growth

Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Specialist on marketing and outreach strategies to position TIEC as a go-to partner for institutions, industry, and government

INNOVATION LEADERSHIP

Incubate and launch new programs that position Texas as a global education hub (e.g., global micro-credentials, workforce development pipelines, and industry/HEI collaborations)

Partner with the CEO to identify emerging markets, design innovative models, and align business opportunities with organizational priorities

STRATEGIC INPUT ON GRANTS & FUNDING ALIGNMENT

Collaborate with the Programs/Grants team to ensure grant pursuits align with fee-for-service strategy

Advise on concept notes and proposals to maximize opportunities for synergy between philanthropic/government funding and TIEC’s fee-based services

Identify trends and recommend approaches where grants can incubate programs that transition to sustainable fee-for-service models

TEAM SUPERVISION AND CAPACITY BUILDING

Manage and mentor the Global Partnerships Coordinator, Special Projects Director, and Global Initiatives Consultant

Ensure staff members meet partnership development and project delivery goals

Establish systems and processes to institutionalize business development capacity

STRATEGY, MEASUREMENT, AND REPORTING

Track key performance indicators (KPIs) for revenue growth, partnerships, and program innovation

Provide quarterly updates and annual revenue reports to the CEO and TIEC Board of Directors

Align business development efforts with TIEC’s strategic plan and member engagement

Required Skills, Experience, and Education

Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in business development, corporate partnerships, or strategic growth, ideally within both business and nonprofit settings

Demonstrated success in securing funding through government, foundations, or corporate channels

Strong supervisory experience with proven ability to lead and motivate teams

Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

Strategic thinker with entrepreneurial drive and ability to deliver measurable results

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and project management tools

Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed

Master’s degree required in Business Administration, International Relations, Higher Education Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field

Work Model and Availability Are you able to work in person from our Austin, TX office at least 2–3 days per week (currently Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) and travel occasionally for conferences or partner visits (both domestically and sometimes internationally)?

Strategic Experience Do you have at least 8 years of experience designing and implementing business or partnership models—including developing pricing strategies, revenue streams, or market-entry frameworks for programs or services in higher education, nonprofit, or international contexts? Please briefly provide one concrete example that demonstrates your impact.

Organizational Integration Have you led or supported efforts to align business development across multiple departments or units (for example, academic, finance, and program teams)? If yes, briefly describe how you ensured coordination and accountability.

Strategic Partnerships and Network Leverage Briefly describe your experience working with industry, universities, or government partners to develop joint initiatives or strategic collaborations. How have you used your professional network to advance an organization’s mission or create new opportunities?
