Tutoring for diverse needs. At Hearts and Minds Learning Center, we use an intervention based approach to teaching kids functioning at all levels and focus on a heart-mind connection for our teachers and students alike. On average, we raise reading, writing, or math skills 1 - 2 full grade levels in 3 - 6 months. Heart centered and data driven, we get even greater results for our students when prioritizing their unique learning styles and by providing targeted instruction. We specialize in building confidence and capability for our students in grades K - 8.
Our founder Janet Alexander is an experienced educator with a love for children who learn differently. A former public school teacher, she observed students struggling with a one-teaching method-fits-all approach to education. She saw students losing confidence and developing a false narrative about themselves: Everyone else learns faster than I do. This work is too hard for me. I am incapable. She knew these students deserved more. Believing that atypical learners require an atypical approach, Janet stepped away from the traditional classroom where teachers had their hands tied by state benchmarks and a restricted curriculum.
She operated a successful corporate educational franchise, where she saw her student test scores increase at some of the best rates in the nation, but still felt a need to do more in her local community, where many of the best and brightest students were reporting academic anxiety and lack of self-confidence, problems that were only increasing in the wake of the pandemic. Inspired by a desire to serve these students, Janet sold her franchise and opened Hearts and Minds Learning Center, bringing to life her personal vision of a custom-tailored education for every child to life.
