Cordia Energy

Cordia finances, owns, acquires, develops, upgrades, operates, and maintains behind-the-meter energy assets. As a key player in the energy sector, we are currently among the largest providers of district energy in the USA, proudly serving municipalities, hotels, hospitals, residential complexes, and commercial properties. Our leadership in the thermal energy industry is recognized nationwide, driven by our commitment to providing efficient and sustainable energy solutions. Owned by KKR, a pension fund group with over $600 billion in assets, we are part of their $56 billion infrastructure fund. This stable ownership structure enables Cordia to benefit from sustainable growth and continuous improvement in energy efficiency and offering competitive financing alternatives Cordia evaluates and considers a diverse range of technologies, from solar and battery storage to geothermal, gas-powered turbines, hydrogen systems, and advanced cooling and heating systems. We are strong proponents of cogeneration, also known as combined heat and power (CHP) systems, due to their significant efficiency and sustainability advantages. Focus on Growth Our growth strategy emphasizes acquiring or financing existing or new behind-the-meter infrastructures. This includes facilities where owners may require developing, upgrades, upscaling, or enhanced energy assets or cooling and heating systems but lack the necessary capital or prefer to focus on their core business. Cordia steps in, providing financial and operational expertise or acquiring the assets, while liberating the owners' capital to reinvest in their core activities. It should be noted that KKR/Cordia investments are not targeted at quick turnarounds. Our funds primarily come from pension plans, and we focus on long-term or perpetual projects and investments. What We Are Seeking: Acquisition or Financing of Existing Behind-the-Meter Infrastructures: We target assets where owners require upgrades, lack the financial capacity, or wish to focus on their core operations. By acquiring or financing these facilities, we enable owners to concentrate on their main business while Cordia optimizes the energy, cooling, and heating systems behind the meter, freeing up their capital to invest in their core activities. Development and Financing of New Projects: We are also interested in taking the lead in developing and financing new projects, particularly those that involve sophisticated behind-the-meter energy, cooling, and heating solutions. Data centers are a prime example, where Cordia can offer cogeneration solutions that optimize power, cooling, and heating efficiency. Financing or Ownership of Capital Equipment: Cordia provides financing or ownership of capital equipment for the integration of behind-the-meter systems. We also handle system transformations, such as converting coal-powered plants to modern gas turbine generation systems or other low-carbon alternatives, while upgrading cooling and heating systems for maximum efficiency. M&A Opportunities: We actively seek M&A opportunities, including the acquisition of existing behind-the-meter companies, Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs), or even competitors. This could involve taking over facilities, assets, or entire companies that align with Cordia’s growth strategy and operational expertise. The facilities would remain on your property but you would be able to capitalize on the existing assets. Maintenance and Operations: Decades of experience operating and maintaining energy systems has given us unmatched knowledge of industry best practices and an outstanding safety record. Our experienced professionals will make sure your system runs smoothly and efficiently, allowing your customers to stay focused on what’s most important to them. We can operate your existing system even if we are not acquiring them.
