Improving the planet and our homes

TreeHouse wins Greater Austin Business Award for environmental efforts to make Central Texas homes more sustainable and healthy

The places that we call our safe havens expose us to the most toxins in our lifetime. Our homes consume the most natural resources including water, energy, and produce the most landfill waste.

One local eco-friendly home upgrade company, TreeHouse, plans to change this. Earlier this year, the company opened its second store proving to be the world’s first energy-positive-big-box store that produces more energy than it consumes. The company is one of four approved retailers in the Central Texas region that participates in the City of Austin’s rebate program.

“At TreeHouse we practice what we preach,” said Jason Ballard, Co-founder of TreeHouse. “We don’t just want to build smarter homes; we want to build smarter homeowners. That’s why we strive to provide everyone the best products and services while drastically reducing our imprint on the planet.”

TreeHouse won the Brookfield Environmental Friendly Award. The accolade – a category of the Greater Austin Business Awards program – recognizes businesses that demonstrate a commitment to environmentally sound practices.

Each year, TreeHouse adds hundreds of kilowatts in electrical power due to solar panels, over 50,000 gallons of reused rainwater, and over 1,000 gallons of zero-VOC paints in Central Texas homes. TreeHouse also offers free classes each month to help residents learn the basics of home solar power, composting, and rainwater harvesting.

TreeHouse will open its third retail store in Plano, TX on January 18, 2018. TreeHouse recently launched an exclusive collaboration with Nest to offer full-service consultation and one-day installation service for Nest’s new suite of smart home products in Dallas/Fort Worth, Plano and Austin areas.
