Three Ways to Travel Smart this Summer

Posted on 05/31/2017 by Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce

The dog days of summer are right around the corner and this means that our skies and your travel will not only be crowded with vagabonds but families as well. Passenger traffic at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA) is up 6.5 percent compared to 2016. Here’s how you can be better prepared to navigate the ABIA while traveling the sunny skies this summer:

Know Your Terminal
The ABIA is home to two terminals—the Barbara Jordan and the new South Terminal. All Allegiant flights operate out of the South Terminal located at 10000 Logistics Lane. Allegiant Airline gates are listed as S1, S2, or S3. You can access the South Terminal from the south side of the ABIA by taking US 183 to Burleson Road then to Emma Browning. Click here for more information on the South Terminal. All other flights are accessible in the main Barbara Jordan Terminal.

Arrive Early
Longer than normal lines are likely in ticketing and at TSA security checkpoints. Remember that all liquids, gels, and aerosols per person carry-on luggage must be three ounces per container, in a clear one-quart bag, and must be placed in a bin for x-ray screening.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the Barbara Jordan Terminal at least two hours before their flight during peak departure hours of 5-8 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Passengers are advised to arrive 90 minutes before all flights at the South Terminal.
