THREDUP opens in Austin: alters image of secondhand clothing

Posted on 09/27/2017 by Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce

THREDUP celebrated the grand opening of their new location with a ribbon-cutting. A member of the Greater Austin Chamber since August 2017, attendees shared their love of fashion and well, secondhand clothing.

For some people, secondhand clothing is viewed as the epitome of fashion faux pas. But this is not the case at THREDUP. The organization ensures that all clothing meets three criteria—flaw free, functional, and fashionable. The best thing for consumers, they are able to discover the magic of shopping secondhand online or in person.

“THREDUP believes in transforming the way people think about secondhand clothing,” said Esmeralda Paz, General Manager of the Austin location. “Our motto is to think secondhand first. Because of this, we are the easiest way to show and sell high-quality secondhand clothes and inspire people to live differently.”

As major retail chains including Macy’s, Sears, and J.C. Penny’s announce extensive closures, consignment stores like THREDUP continue to grow and serve multi-billion dollar global markets.

Located at 10910 Domain Drive, THREDUP is the world’s largest online marketplace where consumers can buy and sell secondhand clothes. Established since 2009, THREDUP has helped consumers live well, feel good, and save money. Generally, THREDUP consumers save up to 90 percent off the retail brands they love.

“THREDUP helps Austinites save money while reducing our environmental footprint,” said Rene Campos, ambassador of the Austin Chamber of Commerce. “THREDUP captures the eclectic Austin lifestyle by empowering everyone—women, men, and children—to find their individual fashion sense. We at the Chamber are proud to support THREDUP and look forward to a long-lasting relationship.”
