The Need for Master Planning Transparent for Austin ISD

Due to student enrollment growth in the southern part of the Austin Independent School District, the AISD Board of Trustees is rightly considering several sites in Southwest and Southeast Austin for a potential high school or two.

We hope that AISD’s search for new land will be coupled with the adoption of a long-term Facilities Master Plan, which reduces the number of under- and over-enrolled campuses. The AISD Board adopted a policy on April 1, 2013 that they would complete a Facility Master Plan by May 2014. Also, as the Board previously stipulated, no additional construction should occur absent a balanced budget. See the Board policy here.
