We are excited that the Austin City Council gave its unanimous approval to an agreement with semiconductor manufacturer NXP. This agreement will give NXP the opportunity to unlock federal CHIPS Act dollars while continuing its commitment to produce chips and offer great jobs in Austin.
Thank you to the Austin City Council, city staff, NXP, and stakeholders for working together to achieve this win-win for our community. A special thank you to our members who reached out to the City to share their support!
This agreement will allow NXP to access CHIPS Act funding – a once-in-a-generation chance for companies to fortify and expand U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. This agreement and funding from the CHIPS act will allow NXP to expand and retool its facilities in Austin. This is both a win for our region and the country. Continuing to expand semiconductor manufacturing in the United States will help make our country more resilient and drive the prices down on electronics we use every day.
Furthermore, this expansion will create high-quality jobs for individuals across the skills spectrum. Notably, many of these positions won't require traditional college degrees. This investment focuses on middle-skilled employees, providing them with career pathways that lead to financial stability and prosperity. It's a testament to our commitment to providing opportunities for everyone in our community.
The Austin Chamber is the voice of business in the region, and we are excited to support this agreement with NXP.
