Ten Local High Schools Have Highest FAFSA Completion Rates Amongst Students

As the financial aid season continues, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce continues to work with local high schools to help high school seniors apply early for financial aid for the 2018-2019 school year.

As the cost of college continues to increase, these early applications—both federal and state—becomes more important for Central Texas students. Although there are many factors involved with a students’ decision to attend college, FAFSA applications are the first step for many students to access scholarships, grants, and subsidized loans in order to achieve their higher educational goals.

In February, the U.S. Department of Education released FAFSA completion rates for both high school and public-school districts. The data revealed ten Central Texas high schools in the DTC70 program with the highest FAFSA submission rates. The schools along with their submission rates are as follows:

The Chamber’s DTC70 program is made possible by Chamber partners and sponsors through the Chamber’s Opportunity Austin initiative. The Chamber has invested nearly $15 million–about a third of its overall budget–on increasing education and talent efforts to help improve educational and economic opportunities for students over the last decade.

The Austin Chamber works with volunteers from Austin Community College, Concordia University, Cybertex, St. Edward’s University, Southwestern University, Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin, college access groups, and businesses to help families navigate the FAFSA process by ensuring students file in advance of college financial aid deadlines.
