Q&A with WorkSTEPS

We caught up with Chamber Member, WorkSTEPS, the largest national provider of functional employment testing. Here’s an insight into WorkSTEPS and what the company has to say about business in Austin:

Q: What makes your organization unique?
A: WorkSTEPS, the pioneer of post-offer pre-employment functional testing, was established by CEO and Founder Larry Feeler (PT, CEAS, NRCME) in 1986 to help industry employers reduce crippling workers compensation claims. The initial goal of the test was simple – to develop a medically-safe, legally-compliant, scientific and objective way to match a prospective workers’ physical abilities with the physical demands of the job. In 2018 WorkSTEPS expanded its suite of services to become the largest national comprehensive provider of business, safety, and occupational health services.WorkSTEPS services more than 3,000 employer clients through a provider network of more than 3,200 health care clinicians. Our clients choose us because we are an employer’s single source for all occupational health and employment services

Q: Why did you join the Chamber?
A: WorkSTEPS is interested in participating in, and better understanding the local business environment. And there is no better way to do that than through the Chamber of Commerce. While we tend to focus our business outreach nationally, we love being based in Austin, and want to foster an environment that supports sustainability and responsible growth locally.

Q: What do you love most about doing business in Austin?
A: Everyone at WorkSTEPS loves living in, and working in the city of Austin. The City of Austin offers quality of life balanced with professional opportunity like no other city in the country. There’s a reason Forbes voted Austin the Best City to Live in for three years running!

Q: What is the most exciting thing going on at your company right now?
A: WorkSTEPS’ merger with a national provider of occupational health and safety services has greatly expanded our Suite of Services, our footprint, and our future opportunities. Big things are happening at WorkSTEPS!

Q: What can customers expect when they use your service/product?
A: WorkSTEPS offers the most effective and impactful functional testing program designed to safely and legally match an employee’s physical capabilities with their job. Employers will experience a reduction in the incidence and related cost of Workers’ Compensation claims almost immediately after they begin testing with WorkSTEPS.

Q: What do you want your impact in Austin to be?
A: WorkSTEPS wants to empower employers with the tools to mitigate losses, reduce injury rates, and hire capable workers. We are an industry leader helping companies keep their workers safe and healthy.

Overview
WorkSTEPS invites you to WorkSTEPS' Anatomy of Worker Well Being Seminar. This Symposium is specifically tailored to human resource executives and professionals, safety and risk managers and directors, in-house counsel and CEOs. This year's program is combined for EMPLOYERS (Thursday only) and PROVIDERS. We invite our providers to join us for the full program from October 17th-19th but they are only required to attend on the 18th and 19th for re-certification. The Welcome Reception for the WorKSTEPS Work Assist Foundation and Silent Auction will be held the evening of October 17th and is a phenomenal opportunity to network with both employers and providers. The WorkSTEPS Work Assist Foundation exists to empower employers to create a culture of disability inclusion in the workplace through innovation, education and accommodation. This program is approved for the following:
