Wrapping up Austin Gives programming for 2022, the Chamber hosted a mixer and panel discussion to give Austin Gives members the opportunity to learn best practices in corporate philanthropy from business leaders, former Austin Gives Awards finalists, and subject matter experts.

The Austin Gives program recognizes companies across the Austin region that donate 1% or more of their pre-tax earnings to the local community. This includes financial contributions, the donation of products/services and volunteer hours.

Our event was hosted by Amplify Credit Union, who welcomed us at one of their branch locations. Stacy Armijo, Chief Experience Officer for Amplify, moderated our panel discussion on corporate philanthropy. Our panelists each shared how their company makes doing good part of their business.

In April 2015 Austin Gives officially became a program of the Chamber in order to meet the demand for expansion and growth of the business community’s commitment to giving back. Members range from small family businesses to large corporations.

Panelists shared that corporate philanthropy is crucial for their company’s brand perception and attractiveness to customers, employees, and investors. They all believed that in today’s socially-conscious business environment, it is expected that businesses demonstrate commitment to purpose in addition to profit. We have seen that purpose-driven companies have a higher employee retention rate, enjoy a faster brand value growth rate, and are more appealing to current and future investors.

Following the panel discussion, there was time for networking and connecting with other business leaders that have philanthropy built into their foundation.

Austin Gives is a voluntary program with no cost to the participants. We encourage all businesses who donate 1% or more of their profits to philanthropy (includes monetary donations, donated product or service, or volunteering) to become a member of Austin Gives.
