When PIMCO set out to establish our third office in the U.S., it was important that we became rooted in a community that shared our passion for giving back. Since opening our doors in Austin nearly a year ago, we’ve been excited to find that our culture of service aligns well with many of the fundamental concerns and issues that are central to the people of Austin. Through a combination of partnerships, outreach opportunities and service events, we have been able to actively engage in giving back – alongside a community that we now call home.

Patrick Feigley, head of the Texas office, says “From the day we arrived, we took the approach that we are not visitors. We want to be an important part of the community. We brought our families to Austin, we are raising our children here, we are getting involved.”

We are especially honored to have been nominated an Austin Gives Generous Business Award finalist, part of the Austin Gives program, which celebrates a community considered one of the most philanthropic in the nation.

What Community Engagement Means at PIMCO

As a global leader in fixed income investment management, PIMCO understands it has a responsibility to effect meaningful social change, both as an organization and as part of a larger community. Our community engagement platform – Purpose at PIMCO – aligns philanthropic focus with firm leadership, personal interests and two of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): hunger (goal 2) and gender equality (goal 5). In 2018, Purpose at PIMCO mobilized 2,453 unique volunteers, including family and friends, who donated more than 14,000 hours of service back to communities around the world.

As in all the communities where we work and live, PIMCO’s commitment to Austin is grounded in our core values. From offering compelling investment solutions to our clients, to fostering an inclusive culture that supports diverse talent, to optimizing the impact of our volunteer engagement, our values drive us to do better and, in turn, to do good.

The Power of Partnerships and the Sustainable Development Goals

We believe that hunger and gender equality are fundamental issues critical to human development and sustainable worldwide economic growth. Here are some examples of how we partner for change:

Hunger

• Since the launch of the Austin office, PIMCO employees have volunteered with The Central Texas Food Bank on a monthly basis. Employees also participated in 2018 in an annual PIMCO signature volunteer event, Share the Harvest, packing food boxes for those in need. At this event, PIMCO Austin colleagues, their friends and family members packed over 8,000 pounds of sorted goods, which provided 6,735 meals.

Gender Equality

• In partnership with local organizations like Texas Wall Street Women, PIMCO supports a peer network of professional women in the finance industry who are committed to making a difference in their community and to developing and growing professionally.

We’re learning many things along our journey toward building better communities. Most important may be the value of partnership. By sharing knowledge and focus, our collective goal of creating stronger places to live and grow – by meeting and beating challenges together – can become real.
