Surfing up Texas sized waves

Texas company, NLand, wins Greater Austin Business Award for creating one of the largest surf parks in the world

Surf’s up at NLAND and we are totally stoked. Why? Because in Texas, everything is bigger.

Founded by Doug Coors of the Coors brewing family and opened in 2016, NLand is the only surf park of its kind in North America and the largest (see what we mean) in the world. An innovative water catchment system collects and filters rainwater, which fills NLand’s 14-acre lagoon.

“Austin’s warm weather, outdoor lifestyle, and spirit of innovation make it an ideal place to grow a surf culture. We’ve been thrilled to help surfers of all levels improve and have a great time in an accelerated, safe, and consistent learning environment,” said Coors.

Surfers can expect a good day on the water anytime at NLand. The park offers three levels of waves—Reef Wave, Inside Wave, and Bay Wave—for experienced, intermediate, and beginner surfers. The Reef Wave is a steep, high-performance wave for experienced surfers looking to up their game. The Inside Wave offers intermediate surfers power and a long ride for those perfecting turns. The Bay Wave offers novices the opportunity to pop up and surf gentle whitewater waves, while learning the basics. All waves come with a softboard, a 30-second ride, and a world-class training facility. Coaching is available, as well as hard board rentals for Reef Wave surfers, and wetsuit rentals for all surfers during cooler months.

“Our goal is to make surfing as accessible as possible, so we provide all the gear a surfer would need. If you have a swimsuit or board shorts, you have what it takes to surf NLand,” said Coors.

Recently NLand received the Facebook Innovation Award. The accolade, a category of the Greater Austin Business Awards program, recognizes businesses that implement new ideas and approaches for doing business. The Texas-sized surf park is becoming a favorite location where folks from Austin and all over the world can have fun, get fit, and up-level their surfing skills.

“We’re honored to be part of the story of surfing as the sport expands and becomes part of life to those not living near an ocean break,” said Coors.

NLand is currently closed for the winter, but reopens in spring 2018. For more information on NLand, visit their website here.
