Indeed: 50% of Job Seekers in Austin Are From Out of State
Posted on 12/01/2015 by Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce
The job opportunities for employers and employees in Central Texas are currently fantastic. Paul D'Arcy, SVP at Indeed, unveiled a fresh, further look into the Austin labor market at the Chamber's 10th State of Education.
- Currently, Austin employers have posted 48,000 job openings over the last 30 days. On any given day more than 32,000 Austin-area jobs are posted on Indeed.
- The only thing growing faster than Austin's population (~3%) is its demand for talent (~4.5%).
- Since 2012, Austin-area job postings have increased 60%, more than any other major labor market in the US.
- 54% of those looking at local job postings are from outside Texas, up 16% year over year.
- Most out-of-staters who apply, do so for Austin's highly skilled open jobs.
This means that Austin, which boasts the 5th most educated talent base in the US, also can attract talent. Austin has the 4th largest increase in college educated talent aged 25-34 in the US from 2010-2012, growing 44%. It also means Austin needs many more of its current citizens to attain either an associate and bachelor degree, especially in highly compensated fields such as health care and IT. This is why the Chamber and our local 9 school district partners are working so hard on DTC70.
