Hundreds of job seekers joined us at the 2018 SXSW Job Market in hopes of landing a great paying career in the Central Texas region. The two-day job event provided career seekers the opportunity to directly meet with HR representatives of Atlassian, Austin Independent School District, Austin Energy, Baylor Scott & White, Blackbaud, City of Austin, Galvanize, General Electric, The Home Depot Austin Technology Center, and Visa.

“We are so proud of the partnership with SXSW for this incredible event,” said Kwee Lan Teo, VP of Talent Development and Acquisition. “When you have a great job or career you have a sense of self-worth and dignity. Everyone, regardless of age, sex, or race deserves to feel like they belong and can offer something beneficial to this region.”

The SXSW Job Market inspires and connects individuals with careers that match their skills with 21st-century employers. Attendees learn useful job-hunting information, listen to talks from industry leaders, gain perspectives and learn the latest techniques for job searching in Central Texas. Job seekers also participated in live competitions where they were able to compete for in-demand jobs by showing off their skills in real-time.

“Having a career provides people with stability, opportunity, and an overall sense of belonging,” said Drew Scheberle, Senior Vice President of Advocacy, Education, and Talent Development. “Everyone has a talent and a skill that they can use to help better society. This is one of the reasons why we advocate so hard for effective workforce programs in the region.”

The Chamber’s partnership in the 2018 SXSW Job Market was part of a collaborative effort provided by the Talent Council to attract and retain talent in our region. As part of the Chamber’s Opportunity Austin initiative, the Talent Council works with HR executives who directly hire for our top employers focused on deepening the Austin talent pool.
