This week, we’re spotlighting Tammi, the Chamber’s Partnerships and Sponsorships Manager. Tammi plays a critical role in driving the Chamber’s mission forward by managing relationships with sponsors and partners, ensuring that the Chamber has the resources it needs to support Austin’s business community.
Tammi’s Role at the Chamber and a Day in Her Life
Tammi’s role revolves around managing partnerships and sponsorships, which contribute to about a third of the Chamber’s revenue. These sponsorships support programming, while partnerships provide year-round funding.
“A lot of my day is about managing relationships,” Tammi explains. “It’s a lot of emails, communication, and meeting with partners to understand their needs and ensure they stay engaged.”
During the holidays, Tammi’s calendar consists of in-person meetings. She spends much of her time visiting partners, nurturing relationships, and exploring ways the Chamber can better support their businesses.
“It’s all about building relationships and keeping our partners engaged with the business community,” she says. “I make sure they feel supported and connected, which is the heart of my role.”
Tammi’s Main Goals in Her Position
Tammi’s daily goals center around staying organized and following up with the many partners and sponsors she communicates with. “I keep a lot of to-do lists because I’m constantly in touch with so many people,” she shares. “My goal each day is to get through all my tasks and follow up where needed.”
On a broader scale, her focus is on meeting revenue goals for events and programming. “We have budgets for sponsorship revenue tied to each event,” she explains. “At the end of the year, I look at the numbers to ensure we’ve brought in the necessary funds.”
These goals are critical to the Chamber’s ability to serve its members and the wider Austin business community.
Tammi’s Proudest Moments
For Tammi, the proudest moments in her role are when she successfully brings in new partners and helps them stay engaged with the Chamber.
“Anytime we bring on a new partner, I feel like it’s a huge win,” she says. “I’m particularly excited about working on a potential pivotal partnership—the highest tier of partnership we offer. Meeting our sponsorship goals for events and the year is always rewarding, but nothing beats engaging new businesses with the Chamber.”
What Brings Tammi Joy
Tammi’s favorite part about working at the Chamber is the sense of connection and impact.
“You really feel like you have a pulse on the business community,” she shares. “You’re part of something bigger—building relationships and connecting with local leaders. It’s exciting to know you’re making a difference.”
Tammi’s Background and How It Shapes Her Work
Tammi’s experience in membership sales has been helpful in her role at the Chamber.
“My background is in private clubs, where providing elevated customer service is key,” she explains. “That experience taught me the importance of catering to members and understanding their needs. It’s helped me excel in managing relationships and ensuring our members feel valued.”
Challenges Facing Austin Businesses and Advice
From her perspective, Austin’s rapid growth poses unique challenges for local businesses.
“For new businesses, navigating the city’s red tape—like permitting—can be a nightmare,” she notes. “For more established companies, the biggest challenge is hiring. The cost of living in Austin makes it difficult to attract and retain talent. Businesses are having to get creative, often partnering with higher education institutions to meet workforce demands.”
Tammi also highlights the Chamber’s role in helping businesses overcome these challenges. “Whether it’s advocacy or connections, the Chamber is here to support them.”
Tammi’s advice for businesses looking to succeed in Austin is simple: get involved.
“Being part of the business community is crucial,” she says. “Join the Chamber, show up to events, network, and utilize all the resources available to you. It’s like I always say: if you use it, it works. If you don’t, it won’t.”
Tammi’s Favorite Things About Austin
Outside of work, Tammi loves taking advantage of everything Austin has to offer.
“I’m a big runner, so I love the boardwalk and trails,” she says. “I’m also a foodie—Austin’s culinary scene is incredible, and I’m always trying new restaurants.”
Tammi also values giving back to the community. “Philanthropy is a big part of my life. I’m involved in the Junior League, donate to several nonprofits monthly, and prioritize giving back through initiatives like Leadership Austin.”
When she’s not working or volunteering, Tammi enjoys spending time with family, whether it’s grilling on a Sunday, attending a UT football game, or simply enjoying a quiet evening together.
