As this project moves through the approval process, it has become the subject of active community discussion. The proposal would transform a former sand and gravel mining site into a mixed-use community while preserving and enhancing the Colorado River corridor.

The long-term vision includes new housing, employment opportunities, parks, restored open space, expanded public access to the Colorado River and more than six miles of hike-and-bike trails, creating outdoor amenities and recreational opportunities that do not exist on the property today.

Important Context

Project proponents emphasize that the proposal represents an opportunity to restore previously disturbed land while creating jobs, housing, public infrastructure and a growing tax base to support parks, infrastructure and city services. They also note that the project would significantly expand public access to the Colorado River through new trails, parks, restored open space and recreational amenities, particularly in an area where public access is limited today.

As with many projects of this scale, some community members and environmental groups have raised questions related to environmental protections, development plans and the proposed Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ). Project representatives have indicated they remain available to answer questions and provide additional information as the public process continues.

Travis County Commissioners Court:

An upcoming meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21.

Austin City Council:

A public hearing and potential action are scheduled for Thursday, July 23.

These meetings offer an opportunity to hear directly from elected officials, project developers, and community stakeholders.
