City & County update Stay Home - Work Safe orders

Posted on 05/08/2020 by Austin Chamber of Commerce

On Friday, May 8, 2020, Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt held a joint press conference to announce an extension of the current stay-at-home orders. It is highly recommended individuals and businesses self-regulate as a community commitment to public health and safety.

The Travis County order is extended through June 15, 2020. The City of Austin order is extended through May 30, 2020.

  • Both orders keep previous provisions related to social distancing, maintaining hygiene, and prohibiting social gathering
  • Face coverings are mandatory when outside the home, with some exceptions
  • Both orders have been updated to incorporate Gov. Abbott’s orders allowing for phased reopening of businesses
  • The Travis County order includes the recommendations from the Austin Chamber-led Opening Central Texas for Business task force as a separate exhibit
