Chamber Comments on Travis County Bond Discussion

Posted on 08/01/2017

In relation to today's Travis County Commissioner Court meeting on a potential $185 million plus bond for November 2017, Tina Cannon, the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce Sr. Director of Government Relations said:

"There is no shortage of needs in Travis County for improved roads, infrastructure and parks. In a perfect world, we could address all our issues and move forward. Thank you to the Travis County Judge and Commissioners for keeping taxes on individual taxpayers the same for several years. Given the proposed, needed Austin ISD bond at one billion dollars to create 21st learning facilities without a tax rate increase and the City of Austin's expected tax increase, citizens are feeling the increased tax pinch. The Chamber is exploring the potential impact of having a needed billion-dollar Austin ISD bond on the same ballot as a $185 million Travis County bond. We would ask that the County consider timing options to ensure success of both measures.”
