On Tuesday, July 19 the Austin Board of Realtors and the Chamber partnered to host the Central Texas Housing Summit. This was a half-day event took a deep dive into the current state of the Austin housing market.

No issue is more central and critical to the future growth of our region than housing. The event had experts from all facets of real estate to discuss the latest trends and challenges in residential home buying and selling, housing development, leasing and property management, and housing equity and affordability.

The event was kicked off by Emily Chenevert, CEO, Austin Board of REALTORS® and ACTRIS MLS and Laura Huffman, the President and CEO of the Austin Chamber.

The event also featured a keynote speaker. George Ratiu, Senior Economist & Manager of Economic Research for Realtor.com joined the event and shared an update on the economy and the housing market for both the United States and Central Texas.

Then the event had two panels. The first was on the current state of housing in Central Texas. This panel shared and talked about the June 2022 Statistics that were compiled by the Austin Board of Realtors.

The first panel included:

  • Susan Nold, Senior Vice President of Policy & External Affairs, Austin Chamber of Commerce
  • Renee Zahn, Secretary of the Board, Texas Apartment Association
  • Awais Azhar, Board Member, HousingWorks Austin
  • Moderator: Emily Chenevert, CEO, ABoR

The second panel took a deep dive into the current state of building housing in Central Texas. This included perspectives on building single-family and multifamily developments. The panel included:

  • Shawn Kirkpatrick, Director of Public Affairs, KB Home
  • Melissa Brown, Vice President, Cumby Development
  • Adam Mosier, Co-Owner, Mosier Luxury Homes
  • Moderator: Emily Chenevert, CEO, ABoR
