Credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions that exist to serve their members, and at A+ Federal Credit Union, this message is embodied in everything we do.

“The relationships we’ve built with our members mean so much to us at A+FCU,” Eric R. Kase, President and CEO of A+FCU, said. “We’re all in this together and when our members do well, we all share the benefits. We bank on each other to be successful and as a result, we’re able to give back and build stronger communities.”

From cashback rewards to certificates with prize winnings to scholarships and grants, here are some of the ways we celebrate and give back to our members.

Cash-Back Checking

In May 2021, we reached over $12 million given back to members through our free Cash-Back Checking program since it began in 2007. Members who have a free Cash-Back Checking account and debit card earn 10¢ for signature-based purchases and 5¢ for PIN-based purchases. In 2020 alone, our members earned over $2.2 million.

Save to Win® Certificate

Save to Win is our prize-linked share certificate, where members earn entries to win prizes from $25 to $5,000 by saving money regularly. Every $25 increase in month-over-month balance earns one entry into the monthly and quarterly prize drawings.

Since the program was adopted in 2018, members have won over $150,000 by saving money with their certificate.

PlusPoints

Our PlusPoints Rewards Program allows members to buy down the rate on a new loan, buy down the origination fee on a new mortgage, or buy up the rate on a share certificate or IRA certificate. Earning points is easy and there are multiple ways to earn; for example, members are rewarded up to 10 points for every transaction using their Cash-Back Checking debit card. Over the last year, members have redeemed $1.17 million using PlusPoints.

Financial Education

Educating our members is a big part of what we do here at A+FCU. Our Community Education team regularly hosts free webinars, ranging from topics such as teacher retirement planning to improving your credit score to buying a home. We invite both members and non-members to participate in these free webinars.

We also offer a free program called BALANCE, where members can access expertly-crafted financial education and resources, as well as financial counseling.

Scholarships and Grants

We know how expensive it is to be a teacher or to pursue higher education – which is why we’re ready to help with both.

The A+ Education Foundation awards grants to innovative and creative programs so they have the support they need to be successful. Educators are eligible to receive up to $1,500. Since 2005, the A+ Education Foundation has awarded over $1,033,500 to 1,078 educators.

Every year, we award multiple scholarships to hardworking area high school and college students. In 2021, we awarded $100,000 to 50 individuals. The scholarships have been an A+FCU tradition since 1984, and this is the third consecutive year $100,000 has been awarded. Each student receives $2,000 to help with educational expenses.
