Transit Plan 2035 is underway and will act as CapMetro’s roadmap for Central Texas’ transit network for the next 5 to 10 years. The plan includes a vision for the future and recommendations to improve bus, rail and Pickup service, and recommendations are based on data analysis, coordination with stakeholders and community feedback from over 8,000 community members that participated our public survey last Fall.

Moving in Steps – Toward Austin’s First Light Rail

Not only is Austin’s first Light Rail an exciting new development for the transit system but data has also shown it will be an economic engine for the city and result in an overwhelmingly positive economic impact.

Within the first 5 years before Light Rail, CapMetro is focusing on maintaining existing service and making smart, affordable changes and growing ridership. More riders will get where they need to go across the city, with the exciting new changes to new Rapid Routes 800 Pleasant Valley and 837 Expo Center. Upon opening day of Light Rail, CapMetro will shift its focus to the next phase of the plan which includes plans for future growth changes to the bus network.

The last steps of the plan are designed to come after the launch of Light Rail and beyond 2035. The proposed changes for 10+ years in the future will address transit system growth throughout the region, and any concepts for Project Connect not implemented in the two previous phases.
