Capital Metro wins Greater Austin Business Award for tech-based wellness program

Not only does Capital Metro believe in providing quality public transportation for the greater Austin area, the organization also strives to improve the health of its employees.

Through its Employees Wellness program, Capital Metro has been able to reduce absenteeism while increasing employee morale and safety awareness while protecting scarce resources. The program offers employees four 24-hour on-site wellness centers, health fitness specialists to provide free personal training, biometric assessments, along with individual and group exercise classes.

Due to its healthy initiative, Capital Metro won the Seton Health and Wellness Award. The accolade, a category of the Greater Austin Business Awards program, recognizes businesses that engage their employees in a healthy and well-balanced lifestyle.

“Thanks to the support of our senior management team and board of directors, our employees are able to take advantage of a health and wellness program that they actually enjoy,” said Linda Watson, President/CEO of Capital Metro. “Our success depends on the productivity of our employees, so we want them to be healthy, both physically and mentally. This program gives them that opportunity.”

Additional services of the program include chair massages, health fairs, physical fitness testing, recreational sports teams, wellness challenges, bicycle loan and tobacco cessation classes. Capital Metro provides cash incentives to full-time employees that consistently participate in weight loss or tobacco cessation courses.
