HID, a global leader in trusted identity solutions, is demonstrating that environmental stewardship and innovation go hand in hand. With deep roots in Austin, Texas, HID has built a strong sustainability foundation that extends far beyond Earth Day. At HID, sustainability isn't just a once-a-year initiative: It’s a core value.

HID is home to the first LEED Platinum-certified industrial facility in Texas, a landmark achievement that reflects the company’s long-standing dedication to sustainable design and construction. HID also participates in the City of Austin’s GreenChoice® Program, purchasing 100% of its energy from wind power.

HID continues to reduce its environmental footprint through strategic energy, waste, and resource management initiatives:

  1. In 2024, the company achieved a 9% reduction in energy consumption, driven by an energy management program with Syntergy EMS. This initiative optimizes building controls such as lighting and HVAC to minimize energy waste during non-peak hours.
  2. HID’s paper usage dropped by 36% year over year, thanks to a transition from paper-based to electronic ordering systems within its production areas.
  3. The company maintains a landfill diversion rate of 74%, ensuring that the majority of its waste is recycled instead of sent to landfill.
  4. Supporting these efforts is HID’s internal Green Team, a group of environmentally minded employees who conduct energy and sustainability audits to identify opportunities to conserve water, save energy, and reduce waste.

HID’s sustainability commitment extends beyond its facilities and into the Austin community. As a Silver Sponsor of Keep Austin Beautiful, HID participates in the Adopt-A-Street Program, maintaining Center Ridge Drive through regular cleanups. In 2025 alone, HID volunteers collected 540 pounds of trash between Center Ridge Drive and Gracywoods Neighborhood Park as part of Keep Austin Beautiful Day.

In addition to cleanup efforts, HID supports environmental education. This year HID hosted a Sustainability Lunch & Learn for local homeschool students, providing hands-on learning about green practices and conservation.

As part of the ASSA ABLOY Group, HID is aligned with a global commitment to sustainable growth, continually investing in people, planet, and performance.
