Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area Celebrates Grand Opening

Posted on 05/08/2019 by Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce

On Friday, April 26, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area (BGCAA) celebrated the grand opening of the Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus, located on 10 acres in East Austin at 6648 Ed Bluestein Blvd., just off Manor Lane. The new facility boasts a recording studio, library, STEM lab, game room, separate Teen Club, and multisport sports complex. This new facility will not only provide state-of-the-art accommodations for Club members, it will also allow BGCAA to serve an additional 1,000 youths in the Austin Area.

BGCAA is Austin’s leading out-of-school time youth development agency, currently serving more than 8,200 registered members and engaging more than 12,700 children annually ages 6 to 18 at 35 locations in Travis and Bastrop Counties, including the Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus. BGCAA’s formula for impact centers on quality programming and services in academic success, character and leadership, and healthy living. Club youth participate in high-impact development programs that, when compared to non-Club youth, result in better school attendance, better grades, higher graduation rates and a better likelihood of attending college.

“Our new Home Club on the Sheth Family Campus will address real challenges facing youth in East Austin. We are grateful for investments from the Sheth family, St. David’s Foundation, Bill and Yolanda Heine and many others who have helped realize our vision for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area to have its own place to serve local youth who need us most—a place where kids and families can gather and grow together,” said Misti Potter, CEO of BGCAA. “We know that when a Boys & Girls Club moves into a neighborhood, risky behaviors and school absences decline, while school attendance and grades improve. We look forward to our Home Club being a difference-maker here in East Austin—and to helping kids build great futures today and impact our community for tomorrow.”
