Lightcast/HWOL made improvements to more efficiently identify expired job postings and this resulted in fewer "available jobs" before stabilizing at a new level as of January 23, 2022. Available job postings historically did not change. The time series experienced a one-time downward shift due to a better methodology.

Job Postings measured in this report refer to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.

There were approximately 77,500 Available Job Postings during the November 2022 monthly reporting period, a decrease from 80,800 postings when compared to October 2022. There were 30,344 New (first-time) Job Postings, an increase of 2,246 first-time postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in November 2022 represented 39 percent of all Available Job Postings – a 4 percent increase compared to the prior month. The Austin metro outperformed the Dallas and Houston metros’ new job postings percent increase (~8% compared to ~2.5% in Dallas and Houston).

Approximately 14 percent or 11,095 of all Available Job Postings during the November 2022 reporting period fell under Management Occupations while 10,376 Available Job Postings fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations, showing continued strong demand for experienced or senior talent and tech talent in our region.

There are currently about 4,900 postings indicating vaccination requirements, or mentions of vaccination requirements, a decrease of approximately 700 postings compared to the previous month of October 2022. Most of the vaccination mentions are posted by companies like KPMG, Accenture, Visa, UnitedHealth Group, and Paypal.

6,125 postings offered "signing bonuses,” a decrease of 324 postings when compared to the previous month.

Thirty-seven percent or 28,681 of Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 58 percent or 16,678 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 13 percent or 3,859 will require at least a bachelor's degree.

There are about 1,100 internship positions posted, in-person or remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Advanced Micro Devices, Intel Corporation, and Skyworks Solutions Incorporated.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Austin MSA reported the lowest unemployment rate in the state again, at 2.8% in October 2022. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 38,600. In October 2022, there were 38,910 more available job postings than the unemployed.

In November 2022, the Austin region saw a total of about 240 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. AMFG (London, UK), Cascadia Capital (Seattle, WA), Costco Wholesale (Issaquah, WA), HOK Group (St. Louis, MO), KoMiCo Technology (Anseong, South Korea), and Levels Health (New York, NY) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating over 130 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing over 110 jobs includes Builders FirstSource, CLEAR, Curative, FUSE Workshop, Horizon Bank, and JPMorgan Chase & Co.
