Burning Glass made improvements to more efficiently identify expired job postings and this resulted in fewer "available jobs" before stabilizing at a new level as of January 23, 2022. Available job postings historically did not change. The time series experienced a one-time downward shift. This is a change due to a better methodology.
Job Postings measured in this report refer to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
There were approximately 119,600 Available Job Postings during the June 2022 monthly reporting period, a significant increase when compared to May 2022. There were 49,100 New (first-time) Job Postings, an increase of 4,400 first-time postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in June 2022 represented 41 percent of all Available Job Postings. Both the Dallas and Houston metros also saw a similar percentage increase in their available job postings.
Six of the Top 25 most posted occupations pay an annual median wage of less than $30,000 (see chart below). There were 260 postings for Childcare Workers in March 2022 but is now at 948 postings, showing a fast-growing demand for them.
15 percent or 18,100 of all Available Job Postings during the June 2022 reporting period fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations while 17,500 Available Job Postings fell under Management Occupations, showing continued strong demand for experienced or senior talent and tech talent in our region.
There are currently about 6,600 postings indicating vaccination requirements or mentions, an increase of 1,400 postings compared to the previous month of May 2022. Most of the vaccination mentions are posted by companies like PricewaterhouseCoopers, Accenture, KPMG, Intel, Visa, and Paypal.
9,000 postings offered "signing bonuses", an increase of 2,000 more postings when compared to the previous month.
36 percent or 43,200 of Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 58 percent or 25,300 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 15 percent or 6,600 will require a bachelor's degree.
There are about 850 internship positions posted, in-person or remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Advanced Micro Devices, Intel Corporation, and Walgreens.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported the lowest unemployment rate in the state again, at 2.7% in May 2022. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 36,200. In May 2022, there were 54,500 more available job postings than the unemployed.
More jobs ahead. In June 2022, the Austin metro region saw a total of about 1,080 jobs announced through new relocation or expansion plans. BondAval (London, United Kingdom), Outer Aisle (Santa Barbara, CA), and SpaceX (Hawthorne, CA) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating about 960 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 120 jobs, includes Apptronik, ETS-Lindgren, Liber & Co., Refraction AI, Tesla, and Zello.
