Insights

Due to a comprehensive revision of the HWOL Index and HWOL Data Series, there will be changes in the volume as a result of this revision. The majority of the volume change was caused by the removal of the bulk of the anonymous ads. Please note that the HWOL Data Series has been revised back to January 2015.

Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
There were about 88,000 Available Job Postings during the June 2021 monthly reporting period, an increase of 3,900 postings compared to the previous month. There were 31,400 New (first-time) Job Postings, a decrease of 2,400 postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in June 2021 represented 36 percent of all Available Job Postings, a 4 percentage point decrease when compared to May 2021.
28 percent or 24,800 of the all Available Job Postings during the June 2021 reporting period fell under the Computer and Mathematical Occupations and Management Occupations, the top two occupational groups in our region.
There were 2,100 postings in January 2021 that offered "sign bonuses", this has increased to 4,900 in June 2021. Last June, there were only 870 postings with sign bonuses. The current top occupations that are offering sign bonuses are Registered Nurses, Sales Representatives-Wholesale and Manufacturing-except Technical and Scientific Products and Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers.
The percentage of posted jobs requiring a bachelor's degree or more as an entry-level of education, increased by another 2 percentage points to 44 percent.
There are about 33,600 Available Job Postings that pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 59 percent or 19,700 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education.
There are about 3,300 Available Job Postings that specifically offer "work from home" opportunities, 300 more than last month. A majority of these postings are tech-related, followed by sales and management occupations.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 4.2% or 54,000 unemployed in May 2021. The number of Available Job Postings in June 2021 is about 33,900 more than the number of unemployed for May 2021 in the Austin MSA.
More jobs ahead. In June 2021, the Austin metro region saw another 5 more Californian companies make new relocation announcements, bringing the total to 21 for this year alone. A total of 2,100 jobs were announced through new relocation or expansion plans in the Austin MSA for June 2021. Dear Media (Los Angeles, CA), Diakon Logistics (Warrenton, VA), Elevated Reach (Austin, TX), F45 Training (Los Angeles, CA), Hershey Creamery Co. (Harrisburg, PA), Kval (Petaluma, CA), Oak View Group (Los Angeles, CA), Plastikon Industries (Hayward, CA), Rex (Seattle, WA), Simwon America Corp. (Gyeongju, South Korea), Surefire Local (Vienna, VA), Switch (Las Vegas, NV) and Trulioo (Vancouver, BC, Canada) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating 1,300 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 800 jobs, includes Aunt Bertha, Babson Diagnostics, Bestow Agency, Brinqa, CesiumAstro, Guideline, Hyliion, Iodine Software, Mobile Tech RX, and Overhaul.
