  • NOTE: During 2019, The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine® (HWOL) program changed its data source (such as adding Glassdoor and Indeed). While the HWOL series has maintained consistency in its methodology, the differences between the two data sources will impact the July 2019 report henceforth.

  • Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.

  • Austin added 36,700 net new jobs, or 3.3% in the 12 months ending in February 2020, making Austin the fastest growing major metro.

  • There were approximately 62,500 Available Job Postings during the February 2020 monthly reporting period, an increase of 1,500 postings compared to the previous month.

  • 18 percent or about 11,500 of the Available Job Postings during the February reporting period fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations followed by Management Occupations which represents about 13 percent or 8,000 of postings.

  • According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 2.6% or 33,400 unemployed in February 2020, an decrease of 1,100 unemployed people when compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate was 2.8% or 34,500 unemployed in January 2020. The current civilian labor force for the Austin MSA in February 2020 was 1,263,700.

  • 37 percent or 23,100 of all Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage of between $30,000 to $65,000 in the Austin MSA for February 2020. Of the 23,100 posted jobs in this category and pay range, 21 percent or about 4,740 would require more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor's degree while 62 percent or 14,300 would require a high school diploma or less.

  • There are about 450 "Work from Home" Available Job Postings in February 2020. Most are in industries related to Insurance Carriers, Software Publishers, Business Support Services, Medical Equipment and Supplies Manufacturing, Scientific Research and Development Services and Management Scientific, and Technical Consulting Services.

  • More jobs ahead. Companies have recently announced new location or expansion plans in the Austin MSA, representing about 215 jobs. The expansion list includes Self Financial, SchoolLinks, RapidDeploy, EverlyWell, Eventus Systems, ETS-Lindgren (EMC Test Systems), Chrono.gg, Atlassian and Acadeum. Employers such as Simpatico Consulting (Detroit, MI) is the only company that has announced new location plan in Austin.
