Burning Glass made improvements to more efficiently identify expired job postings and this resulted in fewer "available jobs" before stabilizing at a new level as of January 23, 2022. Available job postings historically did not change. The time series experienced a one-time downward shift due to a better methodology.

Job Postings measured in this report refer to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.

There were approximately 94,600 Available Job Postings during the August 2022 monthly reporting period, a minor decrease from 96,000 postings when compared to July 2022. There were 34,858 New (first-time) Job Postings, an increase of 1,342 first-time postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in August 2022 represented 37 percent of all Available Job Postings. Both the Dallas and Houston metros also saw a similar percentage increase in their new job postings (within +/- 4 percentage points).

Approximately 15 percent or 13,904 of all Available Job Postings during the August 2022 reporting period fell under Management Occupations while 12,913 Available Job Postings fell under Computer and Mathematical Occupations, showing continued strong demand for experienced or senior talent and tech talent in our region.

There are currently about 6,500 postings indicating vaccination requirements, or mentions of vaccination requirements, a decrease of approximately 200 postings compared to the previous month of July 2022. Most of the vaccination mentions are posted by companies like Accenture, Visa, Apple, Paypal, and CVS Health.

Approximately 8,029 postings offered "signing bonuses", a decrease of 900 less postings when compared to the previous month.

Thirty-eight percent or 35,800 of Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 59 percent or 21,000 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 13 percent or 4,500 will require a bachelor's degree.

There are about 560 internship positions posted, in-person or remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Advanced Micro Devices, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc, and Intel Corporation.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Austin MSA reported the lowest unemployment rate in the state again, at 3.1% in July 2022. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 41,800. In July 2022, there were 52,800 more available job postings than the unemployed.

In August 2022, the Austin region saw a total of about 800 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. Aftership (Hong Kong), BAE Systems (Endicott, NY), DB Schenker (Chesapeake, VA), EzyPa (Thomastown, Australia), GoodLeap (Roseville, CA), and Seismic Software (San Diego, CA) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating over 160 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing over 640 jobs, includes Baylor Scott & White, Embark, Four Hands, INK Games, TCS Mechanical, Texas Children’s Hospital, and Worldwide Clinical Trials.
