Recently, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released the official ratings for school districts and individual schools. Austin ISD shared its results early yesterday prior to last night’s school board meeting. We congratulate Austin ISD on the significant progress reflected in its overall B rating. This is an important step forward and reflects the work of students, educators, families, administrators, and the broader Austin community.

At the same time, we recognize there is more work to do. Two middle schools received a fifth consecutive F rating, and the TEA Commissioner has not yet announced whether any action will be taken regarding the district. We believe Austin ISD should remain focused on building on its progress while addressing the challenges that remain.

Strong public schools are essential to a growing economy and a thriving community. The Chamber has worked closely with Austin ISD to strengthen the connection between our education system and business community, including through the launch of our summer internship program and our support for the 2022 bond election and 2024 tax rate election. We remain committed to that partnership and to supporting Austin ISD as it works to improve educational outcomes and prepare students for success.

Our students and our region’s future workforce depend on strong partnerships between education, business, and the broader community. We appreciate the progress Austin ISD has made, recognize the work that remains, and look forward to continuing to be a committed partner in that work.
