Site Selection Magazine has named Austin the number one city in the country for sustainable development.

Each year the magazine produces a list of the top countries, states, and cities that lead the way in sustainability. This year Austin tops the list of cities and Texas is atop the state rankings.

The annual rankings are produced by looking at a variety of data. The city list is determined by looking at the number of certified LEED buildings, Energy Star buildings, green industry projects, and other metrics related to sustainable development.

The magazine noted "Citizens and companies in the No. 1-ranked Austin metro area know there are ways to act sustainably while still encouraging smart growth."
