Austin Gives Announces Keynote for this Year’s Generous Business Awards

Designer and Philanthropist Kendra Scott to be Featured Speaker

Austin, Texas (Dec. 19, 2016) Austin Gives, a program of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, announced today that designer and philanthropist Kendra Scott will be the featured speaker at the annual Austin Gives Generous Business Awards luncheon, the 5th Anniversary of the Generous Business Awards is taking place on March 3, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Austin.

“When I founded my company in 2002, I knew I wanted to build a brand that made a positive impact on the world. Philanthropy has become an integral part of who we are, and the relationships we have built with our customers and our communities as a result are irreplaceable,” said Kendra. “From nationwide causes to local charities and neighbors in need, we believe we always have something to give. Our company, our customers and I are passionate about sharing the importance of philanthropy at the heart of every business. I’m excited to be part of highlighting some of the most giving companies in Austin who lead by example to lift everyone up in our community. Together, we can make a difference.”

The Generous Business Awards were created by Austin Gives in order to recognize and celebrate businesses of all sizes in the Austin community who make giving back a part of their business model. Since its launch in 2011, the Austin Gives program has celebrated Austin as one of the most philanthropic cities in the nation and has quickly grown with over 450 companies in the network

Once again community leaders, businesses and non –profits will gather to celebrate each Austin Gives Business, hear amazing stories from twelve finalist and once more be inspired by another of Austin’s phenomenal business philanthropist. Past keynotes have been Roy Spence, John Paul DeJoria, Ray Benson and Andy Roddick. This year we are proud to honor Austin’s own designer, CEO, and philanthropist Kendra Scott.

Kendra Scott started her company in 2002, with only $500 and just three months after her first son was born. Going door-to-door to Austin boutiques armed only with a tea box full of her jewelry, Kendra wowed businesses and customers with her infectious personality and unique eye for design.

Today, her company continues to operate out of Austin, TX, in their 43,000 square ft. state of the art corporate office complete with design lab and an industry leading distribution center that caters to her employees’ career goals and family-life balance.

Along with Family, Kendra maintains a focus on her other core pillars of Fashion & Philanthropy in all that she does. In 2015 alone, Kendra and the company have given back over $5M in dollar and product donations through their work with over 1,500 local and national organizations. She lives the belief of always having something to give.
