AUSTIN, Texas—Site Selection Magazine announced the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce has been awarded the 2019 Mac Conway Award, an award given annually to the top economic development organizations in the country.

"We are honored to be recognized as one of the top economic development groups in the country," said Senior Vice President, Economic Development, Charisse Bodisch "The jobs we help create across a diverse set of industries offer people the opportunity to find work, provide for their families, and achieve greater prosperity. This accomplishment is the result of 15 years of collaboration with our regional partners and those who have invested in Opportunity Austin throughout the years."

Winners of the Mac Conway Award are determined by six criteria: total projects, total investment associated with those projects and jobs associated with those projects; and those same three numbers calculated per capita for the metro area.

This tremendous honor stems from the Chamber’s success in closing economic development deals with companies including Apple, PIMCO, Resideo, Oracle, and Charles Schwab. Opportunity Austin helped the region create 26,800 net new jobs in 2018 by recruiting new jobs, helping existing companies expand jobs and entrepreneurs create new companies and jobs.

Through its Opportunity Austin prosperity initiative, the Chamber has helped bring more than 400,000 jobs to the Austin region since 2004.
