Austin Chamber honors small businesses that give back to the community

On August 21st, the Austin Chamber hosted the 19th annual Greater Austin Business Awards. With more than 125 nominees across 12 categories, we wanted to share some of the great things each of our honorees are doing. Today, we are focusing on the small-sized company honorees for the Intel Corporation Community Relations award.

Lyft

The Lyft Austin team is committed to helping local Austin nonprofits succeed. Lyft actively maintains donation programs for The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM), Caritas, as well as local United Way and CASA chapters. Lyft has supported these organizations with ride credits to get musicians to and from healthcare appointments and higher educations classes. Lyft Austin riders have also donated over $15,000 from 30,500 contributing Round-Up & Donate rides and in 2018, Lyft and United Way joined forces to provide free rides to those in need through the 2-1-1 system. The purpose of the program is to fill the unmet needs gap for transportation assistance by providing free Lyft rides for: healthcare, disaster, veterans and employment purposes.

The HT Group

For five consecutive years, the HT Group has hosted the annual Give Back Party which has raised over $125,000 to date for women's empowerment organization Dress for Success Austin. Recently the HT Group participated with Big Brother's Big Sisters of Central Texas raising enough funds to form 3 teams at Bowl for Kids' to bring professionally supported mentoring relationships to children who need them. The HT Group regularly encourages its employees to make a difference in the world they live in and holds a monthly "Kudos" meeting where employees nominate co-workers to receive an award for exhibiting the company's core values and going above and beyond.

Loewy Law Firm

Since 2014, firm founder Adam Loewy and his wife, Phil, have donated over $1 million to Austin charities and non profits. The Loewy family are the lead donors for the first new playground in Northwest Hills in forty years which is set to break ground in 2019. The Loewys also made a major capital investment of $75,000 in the Austin Center for Grief and Loss and are the largest single donor in Shalom Austin's annual campaign's history. The firm has also pledged a a 3-year match gift to the Central Texas Food Bank and has donated over $100,000 to the Food Bank and helped raise an additional $200,000+ through the match. The Loewys also actively support the Texas Book Festival, LiveStrong, the Fertility Foundation of Texas, animal rescue groups and many others.

Give Realty

When you buy or sell a home with Give Realty, 25% of Give Realty's commission is donated to the 501(c)3 nonprofit of the client's choice. Many of our clients choose to give locally. Since 2008, Give Realty has donated over $862,000 to nonprofits, a staggering number since Give Realty has just 2 full time Realtors and 3 part time Realtors. Give Realty's agents are also very committed to donating time to many local non-profit organizations.
